Running after 7 makes me feel puke-y

Talk about a day I probably should have taken off - I've been so tired and maybe a *smidge* hungover from last night's festivities but I got my booty off the couch and get on the treadmill anyway =) The weather has been so beautiful but SO hot this weekend and I haven't gotten up early enough to beat the heat so I decided to do the Couch to 5k week 1 workout again (technically I won't be done with week 1 until Wednesday).

I cranked up my speed to 4 mph walking and 5 mph running and it felt pretty comfortable. My running form still isn't perfect but it's a heck of a lot better than it was last time I tried. I may bump it up to 5.5-6 for running next time, I still felt like I was sitting back, just not as much as last time. When I was finished though I didn't feel very well and my face was redder than red... I think it may have something to do with all the crap I ate beforehand.

I've started keeping a food diary since last Thursday and I'm noticing a pattern - I'm either eating not enough calories for the day (e.g. on Thursday I ate 800 calories, which is less than half of what you are supposed to get) OR I'm overeating like crazy (my diet yesterday consisted of an Irish car bomb, 2-3 beers and the biggest piece of peanut butter pie I've ever seen). I'm definitely worried about the days that I"m not eating enough because I'm obviously not getting the vitamins and minerals I'm supposed to so I'm making sure I'm taking my multi-vitamin and calcium pills. As for the overeating, the diary is going to help pin-point my problem areas so I can cut back. And in my defense I seriously don't drink that much that often =)

  1. Are you eating breakfast? I found that my tummy became 'trained' once I started eating a decent breakfast. Since then I haven't had trouble missing meals.

I also took to getting Kashi granola bars and leaving them in my office for my afternoon hunger attack at 3 p.m. (sooner if I had chinese food for lunch ;-)

  2. I think overall you are doing well - the food diary will really help you after you find your pattern and help you be healthier overall.
When did you start drinking beer???? I thought you could not stand the taste of the stuff????

During the day, healthy snacks are key. If you can not/do not eat breakfast and/or lunch, small snacks like nuts, yogurt, 100 calories snacks... things like that will help you with your intake. What are you drinking? That will have calories as well, water is good but check on the Vitamin water, that will help you out as well.
Keep up all that you are doing - You are doing GREAT!

  3. I always eat a light breakfast - usually a yogurt and a coke zero. Healthy I know, but sometimes I throw in some Special K or breakfast bars now and then. I'm not really a breakfast person per se but I think I'll need to start making it a habit of eating.

As for beer - this is sorta a new thing. I've always just drank that stuff Parrish did and it was horrible. Since working at my new job -- all my coworkers are beer lovers -- I've found a couple that I can drink, but it's still not my favorite.
