Running Intervals

Sonja showed me this cool website for running (http://www.coolrunning.com/) that had a "From the Couch to 5k" workout that I've started. The first week is a 3-day a week workout - a 5 minute walking warm-up, followed by alternating 60 sec intervals of running and 90 seconds of walking. I have to say it felt pretty good - I started walking at 3.5 mph and running I bumped it up to 4 mph so I feel liked I worked out pretty hard. The running felt good, although I don't feel that my form was right - I felt like I was sitting into the run instead of leaning forward and running on my toes. I may have to bump up the running speed a bit to correct that.

I went on Shape.com and I absolutely hate their website. Most of their workouts involved medicine balls, so I was going to look into how much those were. I did look into some for Shape's weight/bmi tools and they say that I'm supposed to weigh between 130-150 lbs.. I don't see me ever being 130 lbs again (I was 22 last time I weighed that much) but 150 seems reasonable. Again, I don't want to make a specific weight my goal since I think I would become obsessed with the number, so I think I'll just see what happens since I'm working out.

I've also decided that I can't get down on myself for missing a day or two of working out. I'm not trying to give myself an excuse to quit, but my body does need to recuperate sometime, you know? It was quite the struggle to wake up this morning and get out of bed, but I did it and I do have that determination to continue.

Yesterday I started my food diary... who knew those Cup O' Noodles had 13g of fat?!

  1. You definitely need recoup time for your muscles. I usually take, you know, 5 or 6 days between workouts. ;)

I usually run at 6 (which is still only a 10 minute mile), but you could start with maybe 5 and work your way up? 4 is pretty slow for a run, which is probably why you were having form trouble. And if you're only running for 60 seconds at a time, you can bump up the speed. That's what's nice about the Couch to 5k one. You can do ANYthing for 60 seconds.
